Wedding Hat for Claudia

Claudia made a last-minute decision to wear a hat to her youngest son’s wedding. She had a clear image in her mind but she could not find what she was looking for. That is when she got in touch with Sue Wood Millinery…

The Consultation

Sue invited Claudia to her studio and asked her to bring her wedding outfit along as a guide for colour and style. It was a long, simple dress in natural shades with a floral pattern. The delicate flowers on the dress were golden yellow in colour with orange edges. Claudia had some specific requirements for her hat. She liked vintage shapes but did not want to wear anything too big or heavy and she wanted the hat to be fairly neutral with just a splash of colour.

“Sue was warm mannered and very approachable, easy to talk to, professional and clearly very talented.”

The Hat

Made from seagrass, this Sue Wood Millinery creation is exactly what Claudia was looking for. The natural material perfectly matches Claudia’s straw handbag and the natural colours in her dress (see photo). It is fairly small with a slightly upturned brim – reminiscent of vintage hats - and decorated with a dark brown trim, small curved feather and a handmade orange silk flower, complementing the flower details on Claudia’s dress.

“It could have been made for me. I couldn’t believe my luck”

The Outcome

“I loved wearing it and it didn’t feel awkward or heavy. In fact, I almost forgot I had a hat on as it was so light and unobtrusive. I felt good wearing it and in no way embarrassed. I had a number of compliments - even from my children! It is a hat I will definitely wear again in fact I might wear it for Wimbledon next week! A simple but unusual design with a touch of class. It was so lovely to find a Milliner on my doorstep who made time to help me out at such short notice.”
