Vintage Postman Hat Alteration for Alan

I am a local postman and had an old-style Royal Mail hat which was too tight for my head. I found Sue Wood Millinery online and got in touch to find out whether she could make it fit me more comfortably. She promptly got back to me and we set a date to meet in her studio. Sue measured my head, looked at the hat, explained what she could do to alter it and gave me a quote. We then arranged a date for me to pick it up. I am very happy with the alterations. The hat is now fit for purpose, comfortable and finished to a very professional standard. Both my customers and work colleagues have commented on my hat to say that they really like it. I found Sue to be very pleasant and knowledgeable, providing an expert service which I would not hesitate to recommend to others.

How this hat was altered

Alan had a 1980’s Post Office hat which he loved. Unfortunately it was too small and when he wore the hat it would leave a red mark around his head. The headband inside was tight and made from faux leather and the top of the hat inside was a man made fibre which was also uncomfortable.

The hat was stretched slowly over the next few days to the required size.

The faux leather headband was replaced with a comfortable cotton headband ribbon and the inside of the hat lined in black cotton fabric.  The original bow was replaced and it was ready for Alan to collect.

And here is Alan looking very smart in his uniform and vintage hat.
