Freelance Theatrical Millinery

Clients include Cameron Mackintosh’s Phantom of the Opera and Disney’s The Lion King.

When she isn’t creating beautiful mother of the bride hats or upcycling vintage hats to create something weird and wacky, Sue Wood Millinery works closely with costume designers to create durable hats, headdresses bonnets and other accessories which enhance the authenticity of a theatre production and fit each individual actor, including their wig and microphone packs.

Sue trained under Rose Cory, the late Queen Mother’s milliner, achieving distinctions and higher distinctions in her work. In 2018, Sue was invited to exhibit at London Hat Week. Her hat, Oswaldtwistle, was inspired by the Industrial Revolution and the art of weaving.

Creative in her use of materials and passionate about upcycling, Sue has worked on some internationally renowned productions with some of the most influential theatrical producers including Cameron Mackintosh and Disney. Productions she has worked on include Phantom of the Opera and The Lion King.

Sue has a vast collection of hat blocks to create all manner of hats and headpieces. If you work behind-the-scenes in TV, Film or Theatre and need a theatrical milliner, please do get in touch.
